NEXTERA

Ponderosa Windfarm Build

Balko, OK

On this 100 square mile project, Chiron Installed 400,000’ of fiber optic cabling between 100 wind turbines, meteorological weather tower and the new power substation via blown fiber method. Upon completion of cable placement, over 2,500 connectors were hand terminated, and OLTS and ORL testing was performed within all assigned turbine locations.

FIBERLIGHT

SH 7, 144ct Fiber Relocation

Centerville, TX

This was a full-service Turnkey project that covered a new underground construction build of 4 segments ranging 68,445LFT. 
Services included directional drilling and installing 68,445’ of (2) 1.25’’ HDPE innerducts, marker posts, fiber testing stations, all required hand holes and 70,000’ of single mode 144ct fiber optic cable was installed by the blown fiber method. Upon completion of construction, fiber splicing crews worked during maintenance windows successfully cutting service over from the old 144ct back bone cable to the new one. (9) total splice points were created totaling 1,296 total splices on the new cable system.

The Woodlands, TX

Chiron Communications provided Structure cabling for the 6th floor suite North of Houston TX. We Installed over 300 segments of Category 6 and 6a cables for Network computers, IP Phones and Wireless Connections. Our Team also completed the full build out for the Network Cabling Room which we installed all the cables to the Network Rack. Finally, we were tasked to assist with the placement of the desk Monitors and Phones for the entire suite.

METRO

Houston Metro Light Rail Expansion (Phase II)

Houston, TX

As part of the $1.23 billion Houston Metro Light Rail expansion, Chiron provided comprehensive connectivity across four new corridors: North, East, Southeast, and Downtown, covering over 30 miles. Throughout this multiyear project, we installed and spliced all underground fiber optic splice enclosures, traffic signal distribution panels, and substation Fiber Distribution Panels (FDPs) for each corridor. This infrastructure ensured reliable communication between pedestrian crossings, axle counting devices, aerial wireless access points, cameras, traffic signal cabinets, and power substations. We conducted final end-to-end testing to ensure compliance with industry standards. All work was completed ahead of schedule while adhering to Houston Rapid Transit’s strict safety, quality, and compliance requirements. Upon completion of the project, we received a letter of satisfaction.

LUMAN

National Maintenance Contract

Texas and Louisiana

Chiron maintained an ongoing maintenance contract with Luman (formerly CenturyLink) from 2007 to 2020 for the Southern Louisiana, North, Northeast, and Central Texas regions. The contract covered various services, including emergency restorations, large cable backbone relocations, enclosure rehabilitation, new ring constructions, and both pre- and post-fiber certification placement testing. It also included ultra long-haul testing and network troubleshooting. The inside plant services encompassed fiber splicing and testing, as well as the installation of stanchion poles, overhead ladder tray systems, equipment rack setups, riser builds, floor coring, ISP-rated fiber and inner ducts, and all metal conduit systems.

TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Aggie Expressway- ITS and Tollway Fiber Installation

Texas

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chiron served as an approved essential contractor to install a dual fiber optic backbone consisting of 144-count cables, along with 12-count lateral cables that spanned over 27 miles. This installation extended from Woodtrace at FM 249 in Tomball, TX to Navasota, Texas, providing connectivity to all toll plazas, entrance and exit tolls, traffic signal cabinets, freeway cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), and wireless access points. After laying the fiber optic cables, we installed a fiber distribution panel (FDP) and underground fiber enclosures at each location, performed fusion splicing, and conducted final testing in compliance with TxDOT specifications.

TRANSCORE

State Highway 99 Grand Parkway

Houston, TX

On the State Highway 99 Grand Parkway project, Chiron adhered to a stringent four-tier testing protocol to enable toll plazas, cameras, dynamic message signs, and communication hubs. Our team completed 250 splices and built 20 enclosures across 13 spans, delivering seamless connectivity for TransCore’s toll infrastructure.

LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS

SMU Backbone Cable Relocation

Texas

Under a maintenance contract, Chiron assisted Level 3 Communications in relocating large backbone cables at Southern Methodist University. The project was time-sensitive and involved 4,320 fiber splices across two 864-count cables and one 432-count cable that had to be completed over five consecutive nights. The project was finished within the deadlines, and OTDR, power meter, and ORL testing were conducted between sites to ensure compliance with EIA/TIA industry standards.

VERIZON BUSINESS

Data Center 4” EMT Conduit Install

Houston, TX

As part of the Verizon business data center upgrade, we installed over 2,000 feet of 4-inch metal EMT piping. This installation included wall-mounted pull boxes, overhead pull boxes, wall penetrations, custom fittings, and 1.5-inch plenum-rated inner duct running in the ceiling and over the telecom racks. The project was a custom installation that faced significant challenges due to the existing infrastructure. To address these obstacles, custom onsite engineering was required. Thanks to hard work and determination, the project was completed on time.

BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS, AND EXPLOSIVES (ATF)

Structured Cabling

Houston, TX

For the ATF’s new seized evidence office in Houston, TX, Chiron installed and tested 32,000 feet of Cat5e voice, data, radio, and coaxial cabling, along with all necessary racks and equipment. Following completion, our team received commendations for outstanding service and workmanship from Four Points Communication Services.
